I have got two reviewers’ reports regarding your manuscript ‘Earthquake preparedness among religious minority groups: The case of the Jewish ultra-orthodox society in Israel’ submitted for possible publication in NHESS.
Both reviewers stated that the work is important and interesting but acknowledged that it is not ready for publication yet. They offered a list of recommendations to improve the quality of the manuscript. Please follow these recommendations (as you already did in your on-line replies) and submit a revised version of the manuscript, which I will send to a second line of review.

Other comments:
Figure 1b (the revised version) shows the 1927 Dead Sea EQ (?) which is not postdating 1984 as indicated in the caption. In addition what is the population-threshold/criteria for a settlement to be presented in the figure as ‘with UO residence’ ? Please state clearly.
Figure 2 (the revised version). Similar to the above, what is the population-threshold/criteria for a neighborhood to be presented in the figure as ‘with UO residence’ ? Please state clearly. E.g. Kiryat Yovel/Arnona are different from Har Nof. The figure caption as a whole is not clear, please revise. Why showing the instrumental <2 Md earthquakes ? They are irrelevant to the seismic risk, are not the one presented in Fig. 1a and are not defining seismic zones. Consider omitting them. I am not sure the map in the background is the one to present. It shows local geological conditions of ground amplification.
