This indicate that the manuscripts need improvements before we can consider your manuscript for publication. Therefore, a major revision of the manuscript is necessary.

Both reviewers provided detailed reports highlighting all the points you should address in the revisions. According to your general detailed response and the additional analysis you have already addressed in the response, I am very positive about the new version of the manuscript if you will take up the remarks and suggestions of the referees. Regarding the suggested separate symbol page by referee #1, I recommend to add this list of abbreviation in the appendix.

The next steps are to prepare one response file (as .pdf) including (1) comments from referees/public, (2) author's response to each comment one by one, and (3) author's changes in manuscript. Thank you for the response file and your revision of the manuscript. Regarding your questions about the observed loss date, I kindly ask you to include them in Fig. 6 (in black ?) and indicate in the captions that you have missing data for several years or there are years without a loss event.
I kindly ask you also to check the guidelines of NHESS (https://www.natural-hazards-and-earth-system-sciences.net/for_authors/manuscript_preparation.html) again regarding ‘Mathematical notation and terminology’ (units) and ‘English guidelines and house standards’ and adapt the manuscript and also the figures.
Overall the manuscript is no ready for publication and I decided only for technical corrections of the mentioned issues.
