The paper nhess-2017-102, titled “A meteo-hydrological modelling system for the reconstruction of river runoff: the case of the Ofanto river catchment”, by Giorgia Verri, Nadia Pinardi, David Gochis, Joseph Tribbia, Antonio Navarra, Giovanni Coppini, and Tomislava Vukicevic

is focused on a hydro-meteorological modelling system designed for the reconstruction of long time series of rainfall and river runoff events. The modelling chain is based on the mesoscale meteorological model Weather Research and Forecasting WRF, Land Surface Model NOAH-MP, and hydrology-hydraulics model WRF-Hydro.
The authors used the model to simulate the river runoff in the Ofanto basin ( Puglia region- Southern Italy) during two episodes: one between January and March 2011 and the second between November and December 2013

Several sensitivity tests were carried out, the validation of the river stream flow highlighted promising statistical indices, and the meteo-hydrological modelling enabled a realistically reconstruction of the local rainfall of the Ofanto hydrograph.


The authors revised the manuscript and addressed the referees’ suggestions. The revision improved the paper that is now ready to be published in the NHESS journal.
